QB Pure Progression & Pocket Movement Drill

Focusing on a Drop Back Pure Progression Concept (Mesh), we are going through each read, in the order of the Progression, and mixing Reactionary Pocket Movements into each throw. This gives us practice at order of the progression, the timing of each throw in the progression, and gives a reactionary element on some of the throws.

After a thorough warm up, this is a great drill that you can use to challenge sequencing after an athletic movement. This drill builds fluidity, and the QB's ability to sequence regardless of the stimulus before the throw.

This is an advanced drill where we are giving the QB a stimulus using a Defender, and the QB must execute an appropriate Pocket Movement to avoid the Rusher and quickly find his Checkdown.

QB Line Drop Variation

QB Line Drops have been around forever - they are great for developing balance, coordination, and reaction time. This is a more advanced variation as the QB is reacting to the flip indicators while keeping his eyes up to see the receiver take off. The QB must quickly set his feet and produce force into the ground to get the ball out.

QB Line Drops have been around forever - they are great for developing balance, coordination, and reaction time. This is a very advanced variation as the QB is given 3 different reactionary stimuli, and must execute a plethora of movements and then react to the direction the WR has taken off.

3 Numbers Drill

Highly advanced, very multiple pocket movement drill. Here, the QB needs to process and execute 2 different movements and whom to throw to very quickly. This drill emulates the game well by making the QB move and deliver the ball while processing information.

Double Pivot Slide

This is a Pivot-Slide warm up drill variation where we are emphasizing the eyes-feet-ball nature of a progression in a read. We are also varying the tempo - relaxed and urgent - to make sure the QB is sequencing properly regardless of the speed in which he is being asked to move.

Pedal + Slide

This is a Fluid Movement warm up drill where we are emphasizing the rhythm of placing our feet after an athletic movement. This is a great drill that you can use to challenge the QB's ability to sequence regardless of the stimulus before the throw.

Pressure Slide

This is a great drill to build rotational power and keep your QB able and safe to make throws in a phone booth. This drill also builds your QB's comfort with making throws under duress. Make sure to rotate violently, and stop your rotation abruptly to maximize the power you're generating through ground-force.

Progression ROA

This is a great way to get more out of your Routes on Air (ROA) sessions. Have the QB think of a concept that the route is within, visualize a defensive look that will result in the route being thrown, and execute the corresponding footwork. This is how you should always throw ROA!

Retreat + Progress

Here we are using a Retreat & Progress drill to help build the QB's comfort with sliding back at an angle and making a throw in an RPO read. The same thing can be drilled as a pocket movement as you work through a Progression in a Drop Back Concept.

Sequence Tuning

This is a mechanical drill used to help build the feel of proper dissociation. Get the QB's weight back more than normal so he can feel the pressure through it, and emphasis the timing of pushing into the ground, rotating through the hips, and extending through the ball, all while keeping your weight back.

Slight Break OTR

This a great drill to practice throwing on the run while having to throw cross-body or against the grain. Throwing on the run without being able to get downhill at your target happens more now than ever in today's game, this drill builds this ability with a reactionary element.
